Question:

Are children 8 yr old’s and ladies allowed to trim their hair to enhance growth. Mine are very thin and fall alot. Previous question wasn’t clarified i.e. if trimming was allowed but length still long?

Pls clarify in detail.
Saw this quote:

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
It is permissible to trim the thin ends of the hair. However, it is not permissible to cut the hair with the intention of shortening it even though it may enhance the hair growth.
If hair has appeared under the arms, she may remove it. It is not necessary for her to wait for her periods.

Muhammed Zakariyya Desai,

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The ruling of an adult person is applied to an 8 year old because she is close to becoming baligh. In all probability she might have already started showing signs of adulthood. This was mentioned in the last answer,

The same rule applies for those girls who are approaching puberty.i If a girl of age seven (7) starts to show signs of puberty, then she should not cut her hair. But if she has not started showing signs of puberty then she may trim and fix her hair until she hits puberty or reaches the age of nine (9).

Trimming an 8 year old girl’s hair can be done in such a way that it does not shorten the length of the hair. Instead, the trimming should be merely grooming the ends of the hairs to facilitate the growth. If the grooming is done to shape a certain style, this may entail cutting the hairs more than mere the tips and impermissible.

We are confident that this is the intent of Hazrat Mufti Zakariya’s fatwa as well.
