Question:

Can we use animal glycerin which has not been slaughtered islamically in lotions, creams, soap.??

Answer:

Bismillahi Ta'ala,

Walaikum assalam,

There is a difference of opinion among the expert in regards of Animal derived glycerine.

According to GMWA Foodguide,  Glycerin (E422) goes through a complete metamorphosis. Hence they opine that Glycerin in cosmetic products will be permissible to use.

According to SANHA (South Africa National Halal Association) this metamorphosis does not take place, hence the product containing such non-halal animal derived glycerin will be impermissible.

In view of the fiqhi usool when opinion of permissibility and impermissibility contrast each other, then Shariah demands that we err on the side of caution. Hence, I would advise you to abstain from such products and seek alternative cosmetics which are free from any doubt. May Allah give you abundant rewards for your exertion in seeking halal, Ameen
