Please guide,

My daughter’s name is Erha Khan,

Recently a friend of mine has said to change the name because she has a fatwa that we cannot name Erha. Below is the link:

Do I have to change her name?
As for us when we researched Erha word is indirectly from the quran meaning “to make calm”.

Answer:

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If the name Erha is taken from the Arabic word “”الإرهاء (with roots ر ه و) then it would mean to make calm.[1] However, if it is taken from the word “أرحاء” (with the roots رح و) then it would be the plural of “”رحي, and it would mean hand mills or querns. [2]

A name has an affect on the person. It is recommended to name children after Prophets alyhimus salam, Sahaba and Sahabiyaat radi Allahu anhum. Therefore, you should consider renaming your daughter after one of the Ummahat-ul-Momineen, and Sahabiyat radi Allahu anhum.[3]
