Meaning for the name Arsh and Aroosh

Question:

Please tell me the correct meaning and pronunciation of name Aroosh. Please reply as soon as possible i am really worried as i have given this name to my daughter but some people say that its Aroush n aroosh is not a word.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Arsh (أرش ) and Aroosh ( أروش ) both are derivation of the same root lettersأ ، ر، ش. Arsh linguistically refers to a penalty which is given in lieu of afflicting some harm. Aroosh (phonetically Uroosh) is plural of Arsh.ⁱ

In terminology it is the diyah (penalty) for causing wounds. ⁱⁱ Another meaning of Arsh is the compensation given for the fault in goods sold.ⁱⁱⁱ

Arsh (عرش) on the other hand means, throne, bedding, shade, and ( عروش) is it’s plural.^iv

In view of above, it will be permissible to keep the name Arsh but it would be inadvisable since the meanings do not display anything beneficial. We suggest that you look for the name of Sahabi or Shahabiyah.

Please note that in both the above cases the name will be phonetically spelled as Uroosh and not Aroosh.
