Question:

Please suggest what is the best way of doing sadqah for someone who is ill?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sadaqah (Charity) that is given in the times of ailment and illness, with intention of beseeching health from Allah Ta’ala, are from voluntary charity (Sadaqaat al Nafila). The rule for Nafl Sadaqah is that it may be dispensed in any avenue of good and in any form.

While generally we think of such sadaqah to be only monetary, but it can be in any form. For example, one could feed the poor, give money for religious organizations, orphanages, welfare projects etc.

One could also dispense by way of spending one’s time in any of these avenues without hope of any remuneration. Similarly, one could do any of multitudes of good deeds with intention of sadaqah towards the sick person’s health.

Once the correct intention is found, there is no requirement of du`ā. However, qurb of Allah is through the du, so one should make concerted du`ā for the health of the sick after having spent in sadaqah. There is no other special method for it.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
