Question:

I’m having doubts about a durood know as “Durood Narriyah”

The English translation is like this:

O Allah! Bestow complete blessings and perfect peace on our master Muhammad by whom all our difficulties be removed, all calamities and agonies prevented; all needs fulfilled; all our cherished desires obtained; and a good end to life; and send us rain-showering clouds by means of his noble countenance, and on his family and companions in every moment and every breath, as many times as is in Your Knowledge.

Does the durood contain shirk, as its saying that Rasulullah (saw) removes difficulties etc..?  Or is the translation just bad?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

At the outset, I have not come across Durood Naariya (or Naariyyah) and this durood is not established from Sunnah of Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam. To consider it to be from Masnun Durood is Bid’ah.

Our pious ulama have always reminded us to establish connection with Allah Ta’ala and His Rasul salallahu alayhi wasallam. We connect to Allah Ta’ala by constantly bringing His grandeur and lordship into our hearts and actions. Similarly we connect to Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam through following all the commands he relayed to us as well as acting on all the Sunnahs which he displayed in perfection of his character.

One way of drawing oneself closer to Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam is through reciting abundant durood on him. Many such durood are in fact wordings of some pious saint, or Sheikh which they write out of their love for Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam. Thereafter they keep an eye on the outcome of such wordings and based on such experience, they prescribe them to their followers.

While their love and desire may be highly appreciative, this love should not blur our senses towards opting incorrect measures to fulfill the very Sunnah of Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam.

While Durood Naariya is not free from disputable wordings, there is indeed a way to interpret them to retain a sound aqueedah. However, the wording are very ambiguous nonetheless. In such cases, there is more harm expected than good from such wordings. While they may not have inherent shirk in themselves (due to presence of a certain meaningful interpretation thereof), they are nontheless mauhim al shirk (something which may create doubt of shirk).

Hence, the ruling of such a Durood is to abstain from it completely. More so, when we have numerous well established Durood from Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam. Consider the well known compilation of Durood and Salawaat by Hadhrat Sheikh Zakariyyah rahimahullah. It is much better to obtain this compilation of 40 Durood and read them at least once a week if not daily.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
