Question:
Assalam O Alaikum, Hope you will be fine with good health, I have a question:
One of my customer going Saudi for Umrah, after landing Jeddah they want to go to Madinah first and in return from Madinah they want to perform Umrah. Please guide us according to Islamic Shariah, any limitation apply on them or they are open in their decisions.
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Flying into Jeddah and then traveling to Madinah Munawwarah by road before going to Makkah Mukarramah to perform Umrah is absolutely permissible. Sharia does not apply any restriction in ones travel plans in this scenario. The travelers who land in Jeddah with the intention of heading straight to Makkah will have to don the ihraam prior to crossing the miqaat by air.
The traveler in question, however, does not intend to go straight to Makkah, rather to Madinah first; therefore, he will not need to don the ihraam.
Rather, he will simply travel to Madinah like normal, stay there for as long as he wants and then don the ihraam before passing Dhul Hulayfa on his way to Makkah.[1]
